I don’t open up much on this blog, and that has been an intentional choice I’ve made. From the beginning, I’ve chosen to focus on fashion (with a little lifestyle and beauty) and to keep things light, as I’m usually a pretty private person. I’ve realized over the years though, that when people only see my polished photos, they tend to assume the rest…and usually those assumptions are totally off-base. Anyway, I recently did a little photo shoot and interview for Simone, where I opened up a bit. If you follow me religiously on twitter, it won’t be much of a surprise that I have dealt with depression, anxiety, and ADD, but this interview gets a little more detailed. I also speak about my identity as a mixed girl and a feminist…
“I have finally come to terms with identifying as mixed, not because I reject blackness and want people to know “I’m special,” but rather because I respect black voices so much and acknowledge that my experience as a mixed woman raised by a white woman will never quite be the same as a black woman’s life experience. I do experience the world as a woman of color and know my fair share of discrimination, but because I have a white mother, light skin, a certain hair texture etcetera, I have a certain amount of privilege that I think it’s important to acknowledge.”
You can read the full interview here.
Love you guys and thanks for the support!
