As you guys know by now, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and I get really into my costumes each year. This time around, my friends and I decided to go as the Clueless crew, and my boyfriend and I were Dionne and Murray.
The one question I get asked the most is “how do you get your costumes so perfect?!” The answer? Lots and lots of planning and work. It’s not luck.
For Dionne, I figured the hardest things to find in-store would be a good braided wig and her hat, so I scoured the internet for those months before. The wig was actually pretty easy to find. For the hat, I searched “white church hat” and looked for the closest silhouette. Then I added everything else myself, using black vinyl from the fabric store, black duct tape, black plastic paint trays (cut to make the bow) and a fake flower.
As it turned out, the hardest thing to find was actually a black plaid suit set–especially in my size. This was a long, long process but long story short, I ended up buying a blazer from target and three dresses from ASOS. I cut one dress in half and used it as my skirt. I cut up the other dresses to use as fabric to hot glue onto the blazer from Target so that the top and bottom would match, then added the black vinyl lapel and cuffs.
Everything else I bought online, with the exception of the cell phone which I rented from a prop store. I am all about details, and made sure I got everything down to the oversized safety pins on my skirt. (Note: I had a nose ring but it fell out and through the cracks of the patio outside! I also realized later Dionne wears a gold necklace with this look–oops!)
My bf as Murray, Me as Dionne, Chrissy Mahlmeister as Cher, her bf Josh as her bf Josh (!), Julia Nunes as Tai and Dannielle Owens-Reid as Travis–and Pizza the Pom as a skeleton.
I had so much fun with my friends! We had a blast all night acting out scenes from the movie and dancing to the soundtrack (all documented on snapchat, of course).
PS-I promise there were other non-Clueless people at our party…we got together early to take pics
How amazing is this! I love Halloween and try to put a lot of thought into the styles I do! This one is spot on! Cant wait to see what you have in store for this year!
