I’m currently in love with this Tetris print mini skirt from the Australian retailer, City Chic. Why is it that US plus size stores can’t keep up with the stylish designs of their foreign competitors?
I’ve been thinking about posting an article of clothing I’m digging each Monday as the “Item of the Week,” but sadly, I don’t even think enough cute plus size options exist for me to choose something new that often. What do you guys think?
Are you crazy! I think you could definately do it! If you run out of clothes then there are always accessories and shoes. You could even have a spending limit on things…u know make it affordable something we all could get. Lets do it! (Lets is plural but by we I mean you…)
I think that the USA is the leading country regarding plus sizes. Knowing that there are still not enough possibilities to go shopping for you… I wish there would be that many plus size boutiques and online stores here in Germany…that is why I like to browse plus size orientated web sites (including this blog) from all around the world so much. To me that’s really inspiring and by the way I love the idea of arranging a fashion week for larger sizes which makes clear that many plus size women instead of feeling miserable because of their outward appearance rather enjoy this feature of their beings. Having said this I hope you will have a lot of fun and get new impressions at this great event… I wish I could be there too…
Big greetings from Germany to New York and the whole world 😉
Steffi
P.S.: Thanks for `fighting‘ for us… you do a great job… way to go!
I never thought I’d see an American girl jealous of the choices given to plus sized Australian girls…
I’m with Steffi; the US is miles ahead of everyone in terms of plus size fashion.
Plus size shopping here in Australia is a nightmare. City Chic is the absolute best option young fat girls have.
@steffi and @corpulent,
i do believe the US has more plus size stores, but not necessarily BETTER options. i did not mean to specifically say that aus. has better fashion, but that foreign retailers generally design more stylish clothing for inbetweenies or fat girls (mostly european stores like asos, evans, dorothy perkins, carmakoma etc). for example, the skirt pictured is so adorable, yet nothing like that is available in any US plus size store. the actual fat fashion offered here is pretty bad, in my opinion.
I would love an item of the week feature. What’d I’d love even more would be a super-size item of the week, for those of us who are a 32 or bigger.
I think there are def a lot of plus size options for you to post something weekly. It’s gonna of course depend on how many things you are finding that are actually your personal style. But I see so much growth in plus size fashion in the US in the last 5 years and I am so pleased! Don’t get me wrong there is still a ways to go as well and at the same time I like that I have the option of looking outside the US as well. It would be great to have all of my fav stores right around the corner, but what fun would that be? Makes me all the more proud when I know the effort that has gone into putting and outfit together!
Hi Gabi, I love your blog!! Thanks for showing me that I can be bigger-sized and still be confident and dress however I want, just like the thin people Anyway, I wished that I was living in the US, Australia or UK! I’m from a little country called Singapore, where by some divine intervention, 99.9% of the population is thin and tall, or both. Therefore, anyone above an L size feels pretty left out and can’t really find anything decent to wear without having to spend more money. Thank goodness for Dorothy Perkins and the fact that Asos delivers worldwide! You girls are still pretty lucky
I can’t say I really like the skirt. The shiny polyester/shirred elastic waist/80’s (and not in a good way) print combo doesn’t translate that well to me, at least on screen.
@tartandtreacly, yeah, i know other people arent into stuff i like, but i love polyester 80s stuff 😀
i love love love that skirt!
That’s so funny to me when you write those kind of things, because here in France, we really die for having all the beautiful clothes we sse on the U.S plus size websites that we can’t buy because they don’t ship overseas
I think its interesting that people who live outside of the US think that the US has the best options, whereas, I am insanely jealous of the people that live in the UK. While the US may have MORE options, the UK definitely has BETTER options, imo.
hahaha i didn’t realize that i just repeated exactly what you replied with gabi!
I think you most def could. Like another commenter said, there’s always accessories. There are some really nice things out there. You just have to search. really really hard. I’ve comtemplated taking up sewing just so I could have cuter digs and I wear a 16/18.
City Chic is kind of like our Torrid. We drag ourselves there begrudgingly because it’s the most fashion forward option, but the quality is awful and the prices are ridiculous!
I’m so with Christina – the stuff I’ve seen from the UK in the last few month has been amazing! I just bought stuff from Yours and Evans (you saw them on my fatshionista post!) and I am very very happy with the value!
hey Chic. Loving your blog. Spreading the word down here in Oz. And if you ever need anything from City Chic, let me know and I’ll send it over to you OR you can just hop on a plane and come visit me. Best of Luck. Doin’ it big. Love ya.
City Chic is horrible, it’s over priced, poorly made and uses cheap fabrics and sadly it’s our best option.
