ASOS Curve Review

Anyone who has read this blog long enough knows that the UK retailer, ASOS, is quite possibly my favorite store ever. When they announced that they would be launching a plus size line, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. They were kind enough to send some of us fatshion bloggers items to review before the line launches next week (Jan 22nd), and I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than when the box arrived on my porch this morning. They sent me five items: a white lace dress, a black batwing dress, a blue trench coat, a pair of jeggings, and a slouchy white tee.

1) The white lace dress is simply amazing. It’s super flirty and feminine, and it reminds me of the Rodarte for Target dresses that I couldn’t fit into! It is perfect for Spring, but paired with tights and a bomber can definitely work through the winter months as well.

2) The batwing dress is every girl’s dream. Everyone knows I can never have enough bodycon black dresses. The cool sleeves and slouchy top give it some flair, and I’m certain this will become a staple in my wardrobe. I wish I could have gotten a better picture showing the detail (trust me, I tried), but for some reason the flash and the material of the dress weren’t working well together. I’m sure ASOS will be able to capture its magnificence a little more accurately!
3) This blue swing coat is just adorable. Nothing makes my heart flutter like big, gold buttons, and the huge pockets are the icing on the cake!
4) Never in my life have I felt a tee as soft as this one! I cannot even explain how hard it is as a fat girl to find slouchy t-shirts that look fashionable, so I was ecstatic to find out that ASOS has stepped up to the plate. Now that I know how well they fit, I will definitely be purchasing more. The jeggings are equally amazing–much better than any other brand I’ve tried. They’re very thick, so I doubt they’ll pill and rip, which is good because I don’t think I’ll be taking them off for a while.
I cannot say enough about the quality of these clothes; they literally feel like butter. Christina of Musings has also received some items that she will be reviewing in the next few days, and apparently hers are a bit more edgy. I’m extremely happy with the line so far, and cannot wait to see what else is offered when it launches next week!

Sizing: I believe the line will go up to a size UK26. To figure out what size you should order, my best advice is to take your measurements and check their size chart. I usually wear a US 16/18 on top and 18/20 on bottom. All of the ASOS stuff fit perfectly, and I ordered the dresses/tops in size UK20 and the jeggings in UK22.

In case anyone is wondering, all of the accessories and the studded shoes are from Forever21, the faux fur vest is from Target, and the black wedges are BCBG.

So far, I’m very impressed! But I didn’t expect anything less from ASOS. I’m just glad there is now another retailer that gives fashionable plus-size women more options.

Wow…utterly cute! I usually hate white anything but that lace dress is awesome. As well as that blue coat, so adorable. Clothes never look like that on me though. And I’ve been scared to order stuff from overseas in fear of bad fits and having to pay to return stuff. Maybe I’ll give it a try.And I understand about the camera, I’m still fumbling with mine.

This is definitely better than the little preview that was going around.

It just looks like the sizing is on the small size because I usually buy a UK22 and here I think I’d need a 24.

see?! i knew it was a lot better than everyone was griping about! regardless of what the preview showed, asos makes great clothes. hands down. and i love everything that you got. i love the jeggings and the lace dress. as an avid asos buyer myself, i’ll sooo be picking up things from that line.

random question – does anyone who has bought any uk sized clothes find they fit into the same corresponding us size? eg. i wear a 18 on top in the us and a 18 on top in the uk fits me as well? aren’t the sizes supposed to be different in some way? or maybe its just me? i dunno.

They should have got you to model these clothes ’cause this has me way or excited than the sneak peak! What’s the length of the jeggings like? As most shops seem to think that plus size=short size.

Very cute. I am glad you put your sizes on there, it helped with perspective. (I am a 14/16 on top 10/20 on bottom also).

How do you take such great pics? Do you have a tripod or someone taking the pics for you? (I think I recall you mentioning a tripod but just wanted to check). I haven’t been able to take any pics on my blog because they never come out looking right.

Anyway, beautiful as always. Definently gets me excited for Asos. I normally order from Dorothy Perkins (if I order overseas) but Asos may get my business as well.

@kia, yes i get to keep the items :) one of the perks of being a blogger!

@madamemango usually you’re supposed to order 1-2 sizes up for UK sizing

@cecilia oh i definitely have a double chin, believe me!

@stephanie im not sure about the length of the jeggings, but they fit me well. i’m 5’5 and there is a little extra fabric scrunched at the ankles (which i like). i would say they would fit anyone from 5’3-5’7 fine.

    @AVLStyle the leggings are denim

@LiteralGemini I just set my camera on the table and use the self timer…I’m saving up for a tripod!

    Hi ya,

i just came across this blog and all I can say is wow. I used to be of the mindset that after I lost weight I would be able to buy trendy clothes/look sexy and so I haven’t made much of an effort. After going through your blog, I see so many plus size stores listed I am inspired to dress to flaunt what i’ve got, not hide it. Thanks for your awesome blog, we need more like it!
