I was honored to be invited by Chevy to BET’s annual Black Girls Rock event last weekend. The night is dedicated to honoring the talent and success of black women, and is something many of us look forward to each year. This year, BGR awarded some of my favorites like Erykah Badu, Nadia Lopez (school principal of HONY fame) and Jada Pinkett Smith–Michelle Obama was even there to show her support. It was truly a magical night and I hope all of you watch it when it airs on April 5th!

When I got the invite, I reached out to one of my favorite emerging luxury designers, PLY Apparel. They make gorgeous clothing using quality fabrics and I knew they would be the perfect choice for my red carpet look. They had an outfit I saw during their Fall 2014 collection, and I asked if it would be possible to update it with Spring colors. I was so happy with the outcome! I loved the leather crop top that mixed blush and lilac with a snakeskin print, such a fun color combo. The white skirt had amazing details like the pleats and rose hem. I accessorized the look with a rose gold bracelet and ring from COS, a feather clutch from TopShop and these blush heels by Louise et Cie.

I got a haircut the day of the event from Zeph at Arrojo, and my makeup was done by Tara Taylor. I loved my final look!

Finally got to meet Danielle Brooks (from Orange is the New Black)! She was super sweet and called me one of her style icons–insane.

I’m still on cloud nine and couldn’t have loved my outfit any more! Thank you again to Chevy and PLY. My style icon Tracee Ellis Ross even stopped mid-red carpet to tell me how much she loved my look–dead!
